GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

HONGKONG. 26th. May, 1916.

Referring to the Order of the Lords in Council

of the 16th. March, a copy of which was enclosed in your Miscella-

-neous Despatch of the 23rd. March, I have the honour to state that

representations have been made to this Government regarding the

prohibition which has been placed upon the export of cinematograph films and gramaphone records.

2.

Such films and records are not produced in

Hongkong. Films in inconsiderable numbers are exchanged between

local cinematograph proprietors and proprietors of similar concerne

in neighbouring ports; and gramophone records pass in the retail

trade in very small quantities to Manila and the China Coast Ports.

3.

I have permitted the normal export of both

these articles to continue pending this reference to you.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient,

humble servant,

may

Governor,&c..

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

ANDREW BONAR LAW, M.P.,
